2.25 Ramen Jiro ラーメン二郎@Kawagoe Sta. 川越駅

Ramen Jiro is a ten-minute walk from Kawagoe station.

I hadn’t visited for several years because the customer service was terrible back then.

However, I came back after a long time because the Jiro-style ramen shop I was planning to visit was temporarily closed.

As you can see, you need to wait in line whenever you go there. It is one of the most popular ramen shops in Kawagoe.

They now have renge (soup spoons) and free topping of wood ear mushrooms (call with “A•Re”), which weren’t available before.

I ordered a small ramen for 900 yen with less noodles. For the free toppings, I chose vegetables, garlic, fat, and wood ear mushrooms (‘”A•Re’).

After reading the reviews on Google Maps, I thought ‘are’ referred to wood ear mushrooms, but it turned out to be ginger. Disappointing…

The noodles were tough and not tasty.

The soup’s flavor was indistinct and unclear.

The pork was a bit too tough.

As mentioned earlier, the service has improved significantly. They now provide a soup spoon, have background music, and the owner greets properly. However, the crucial aspect, the ramen, wasn’t delicious. I might visit again in a few years to see if there are any improvements.

The past review is as below.

First of all, the atmosphere of this shop is awful. Every customer is shut up because any conversation is not allowed here. If you talk with your friends in this shop, you will be warned not to do that from a clerk. So, you could hear a pin drop. I wish there would be BGM.

The horrible atmosphere made me refrain from taking a lot of pictures. I wanted to…So, I do not recommend you to come to this shop.

Noodles are very thick and chewy. I requested a clerk to make a half-size ramen.

Soup is not bad, and ingredients are also nothing special.

Only service is awful.
